Writing Prompts

I’ve recently decided to be more active on an amazing Facebook group. This Facebook Group is called Malaysian Writers/Penulis Malaysia. They’re a very proactive group with amazing writers that churn out wondrous tales and poetry. Every week there are writing prompts to encourage one another to write. They also post up interesting links to various sites to help one better the art of writing.

Here are some of my takes on the writing prompts posted up on this Facebook group. Mind you, they’re not all that great, but I do enjoy writing stories based on the pictures they post up.

I crawl out of the darkness, and my hands slip as they try to grab the blood stained door. It’s done, it’s over, I think. My legs tingle, from the memory of being grasped by them. But they’re gone now. I have to believe that.

I try to pull myself out, but I feel my arms giving way. It is then that I start to feel the barest whisper of a breath against my ankle. My heart starts to pound. I begin struggling out of this door with more vigor.

I can almost hear them. My nails dig into the door, and I can feel splinters piercing my skin. The pain is nothing compared to the fear.

As I hoist myself up, hope starting to thrum in my chest –

“Where do you think you’re going?” They grab my legs, and pull me back down, and I scream and scream and scream, but I know no one can save me now.

He danced and swayed to music that only he could hear. The haunting tones took him higher and higher, as he stepped into nothing, and moved with whispers of the air. He rose higher and higher and grasped the white lantern that had caught his eye from below. Like the moon, it called to him, and he allowed it to move as he did. They twirled to the dulcet tones of a song long forgotten by the people.

As he gazed into the lantern resembling the moon he had not seen in centuries, he said, “Ah, they’ve come.”

Shadows had begun to creep upon him while he was unaware. They were reaching out to him but they were hindered by the bright light of the white moon lantern. The man smiled, and laughed. He continued dancing in the air, with the lantern firmly in his grasp. The shadows surrounded them, hands reaching out, and they appeared to be his audience, enthralled by his dance. They could not reach him, could not touch him.

He continued to dance, he continued to sing. Till the light of the white moon lantern flickered and dimmed, plunging them into darkness.

“It is time.”

And so I’ll end it here. I often venture into fantasy don’t I?

Thank you for reading!

Love, Nicole.
